PTG FrioNordica is to supply refrigerated seawater (RSW) systems with natural refrigerants to three wellboats being built by Aas Mek Verksted for Sølvtrans. This follows several earlier deliveries of efficient systems for cooling seawater and fish to Sølvtrans and Aas Mek Verksted.
Due for delivery in 2022, the three new Sølvtrans vessels are Aas Mek Verksted’s own AAS 3002 ST design. Based in Vestnes local authority in Møre og Romsdal, the family-owned yard specialises in developing and building wellboats, and offers everything from design and construction to service.
Local value creation
PTG FrioNordica is located in Malmefjorden outside Molde and the RSW systems will not have far to travel to the yard, which is a little further south. Sølvtrans has its head office in Ålesund, an hour’s drive from Aas Mek Verksted.
“We’re very proud that Aas Mek Verksted has selected us again as a supplier to the Sølvtrans newbuildings,” says Ketil Røberg, sales and marketing vice president for marine and industry at PTG.
“We regard this as a declaration of confidence and a confirmation of our quality. Sølvtrans is the world’s largest wellboat operator, and we’re also proud that it – along with Aas Mek Verksted – regards us as a quality supply of RSW systems.”
Top quality
The wellboats will be 77 metres long and outfitted with top-quality solutions for transporting live fish in open and closed systems with RSW cooling. Capacity will be 3 000 m³, corresponding to about 400–500 tonnes of live fish.
RSW systems are complete solutions for efficient cooling of seawater and fish. A perfect temperature is important for the welfare and careful handling of fish being transported alive from sea to shore.
Each of the three new wellboats will be equipped with a PTG FrioNordica RSW system of 2 100 kW. Using ammonia as a natural refrigerant, they are very energy efficient and space saving.
All PTG FrioNordica RSW systems feature fully-welded titanium heat exchangers. That makes them leak-proof, and PTG provides a 10-year anti-corrosion guarantee for components in contact with seawater.
